Juan Downey Alvarado, artista visual y audiovisualista, nació el 11 de mayo de 1940 y murió en Nueva York, Estados Unidos, el 9 de junio de 1993.
Estudia arquitectura en la Universidad Católica donde se gradúa en 1961. Luego viaja a Europa para especializarse, asistiendo al atelier del maestro grabador William Hayter en París.
En 1966 se radica en los Estados Unidos e ingresa a la Escuela de Arte y Diseño del Pratt Institute, institución en la que más tarde se desempeña como profesor hasta su muerte en 1993.

Juan Downey Alvarado, visual artist and audiovisualist, was born on May 11, 1940 and died in New York, United States, on June 9, 1993.
He studied architecture at the Catholic University where he graduated in 1961. Then, he traveled to Europe to specialize, attending the atelier of master engraver William Hayter in Paris.
In 1966 he settled in the United States and entered the School of Art and Design of the Pratt Institute, an institution where he later served as professor until his death in 1993
