Convocatoria – Concurso para curadores latinoamericanos

Durante 2016 se realizó el “Concurso para selección de proyecto curatorial representante del Pabellón de Chile en la 57ª Bienal de Venecia 2017” que por primera vez incluyó a curadores latinoamericanos en una convocatoria abierta.

En esta segunda versión de la convocatoria fue elegida la obra Werken de Bernardo Oyarzún, presentada por el paraguayo Ticio Escobar.

La iniciativa fue elegida entre seis proyectos finalistas que tuvo como jurado a representantes nacionales e internacionales de diversos sectores de las artes visuales:

• Cuauhtémoc Medina / México, Teórico y Curador Mexicano, Curador en Jefe / MUAC Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo-UNAM / Curador de Manifiesta 9, Gent, Bélgica.
• Ivo Mesquita / Curador e investigador residente en San Pablo, Curador de la 28ª Bienal de San Pablo y de la Pinacoteca de San Pablo (Brasil).
• Nelly Richard / Teórica y curadora de Arte. Curadora del Pabellón de Chile a la Bienal de Venecia 2015.
• Gaspar Galaz / Escultor y Teórico de Arte, Académico del Departamento de Teoría y Estética de la Universidad Católica.
• Gonzalo Díaz / Artista y Académico / Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas de Chile en el 2003, representante de Chile en la 51ª Bienal de Venecia, 2005.
• Mónica Bengoa / Artista visual de reconocida trayectoria, académica de la Universidad Católica y artista participante en el Pabellón del ILLA en la 52ª Bienal de Venecia, 2007.
• Emilio Lamarca / Director de CASA E, diplomático, ex director DIRAC. Primer responsable de haber gestionado la posibilidad de que Chile tuviera un Pabellón en Venecia.

Call for Latinoamerican curators

During 2016, was held the Call for curatorial project to represent the Chilean Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennial 2017, which for the first time included Latin American curators in an open call.

In this second version of the call was chosen the work Werken by Bernardo Oyarzún, presented by the Paraguayan curator, Ticio Escobar.

The initiative was chosen from six finalist projects with a jury formed by Chilean and international representatives from various sectors of the visual arts area:

• Cuauhtémoc Medina / Mexico, Mexican Theorist and Curator, Curator in Chief / MUAC Contemporary Art University Museum-UNAM / Curator of Manifiesta 9, Gent, Belgium.
• Ivo Mesquita / Curator and researcher residing in São Paulo, curator of the 28th São Paulo Biennial and the São Paulo Pinacoteca (Brazil).
• Nelly Richard / Theorist and art curator. Curator of the Pavilion of Chile to the Biennial of Venice 2015.
• Gaspar Galaz / Sculptor and Theorist of Art, Academician of the Department of Theory and Aesthetics of the Catholic University.
• Gonzalo Díaz / Artist and Academician / National Prize of Plastic Arts of Chile in 2003, representative of Chile at the 51st Venice Biennial, 2005.
• Mónica Bengoa / Visual artist of recognized trajectory, academic of the Catholic University and artist participating in the ILLA Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale, 2007.
• Emilio Lamarca / Director CASA E, diplomat, former director DIRAC. First responsible for having managed the possibility of Chile having a Pavilion in Venice.
